~ Vocation Awareness ~

The Vocation Cross Program

The Vocation Commission has initiated the Vocation Cross Program which has given families of St. Christine’s the opportunity to receive the Vocation Cross into their homes. Accompanying the cross is a binder with prayers, activities and materials to promote discussions on vocations. To receive the Vocation Cross into your home, a sign up sheet is available on the bulletin board in the foyer of the church.

(From the DeLuca Family)
We placed the Vocation Cross on a table surrounded by flowers, plants and sunlight. First, we used the vocation prayers in the binder, but when we started to discuss our images of the life of religious and ordained we realized that we needed to know more about it. We need to invite Deacon Paul and Sister Eileen to our house for a family discussion which we intend to do some time in the near future.

Every day and night we prayed for the religious and ordained and for an increase in their numbers. Our son began considering the option of priesthood and we openly discussed the possibilities of being a priest as well as other jobs. Their comments have led us to the realization that we need to have more discussions on this topic. We encourage others to sign up to receive the Vocation Cross into your home.

(From the Feeney Family)
We received the cross at the 11:30 Mass from the DeLuca family. Most of the time the cross was on our dining room table. During Christmas our adult children and their spouses and grandchildren were here for dinner. During the meal the cross was placed on a sideboard overlooking the table.

During dinner the family discussed the many dedicated nuns who exerted a positive influence on our lives and lamented the fact that our grandchildren are not having that experience. On New Year's weekend we used the information in the binder and did the word games and crossword puzzles with the grandchildren. The eldest granddaughter led us in the Our Father and Hail Mary with a petition that more people will be open to answering God's call to the religious and ordained life. I encourage
others--families or single households to sign up to receive this cross and use the materials included with it for reflection and prayer for an increase in religious and ordained vocations--especially from our parish.
